Folk Dance Finale

We were so lucky to have a special guest in the music room today!  Mrs. Asch, Bayside's orchestra teacher, came to play some fiddle tunes while 3rd graders danced.  We were able to dance all four folk dances we've learned while she played.  What a treat!  She also played a few fiddle tunes for us when we were done.  Thanks Mrs. Asch!

Jazz Tour Comes to Stormonth

This week we were lucky enough to host Bayside, Mapledale, Glen Hills, and Nicolet's jazz bands! They put on a great show for all of our Stormonth students!

4th Grade's Trip to the MSO!

This week fourth graders traveled to The Marcus Center and saw the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra!  Students have learned eight different pieces in preparation for this field trip.  We were able to sit in the audience and join the orchestra by playing on our recorders and singing along with the melodies they played!  

We would like to thank Mrs. Grimm-Nilsen for paying for the buses that took us to the concert!  It was a very memorable trip for all the students and we hope to make this trip every year with our fourth graders!

Obwisana

Tracing back through our history to find the roots of blues and jazz, 2nd graders went to Ghana (via Google Earth) and also learned a few traditional folk songs.  This song is called Obwisana and is a traditional rock passing game.  Mrs. Gumm's class makes this game look easy, but it took a lot of practice to work as a team!  Great job!

Folk Dance!

3rd graders have been singing, dancing, and playing a ton of folk dances since we have been back from winter break!  In this song, Rig a Jig Jig, students first learned the song, then learned the dance, and finally learned an accompaniment part on the xylophones with a new cross-over hand technique.  Pretty cool!

Ice Skating in the Music Room with K4

We were inspired by the icy weather last week and turned the music room into an ice skating rink!  Students were working on their slow and smooth movements so that their skates would glide across the "ice."
