Ice Skating in the Music Room with K4
We were inspired by the icy weather last week and turned the music room into an ice skating rink! Students were working on their slow and smooth movements so that their skates would glide across the "ice."

"SING" Dance
Students at Stormonth have been learning a dance to the song "Sing" by Pentatonix! Here is the music to practice with at home:
3rd Grade "Sleigh Ride"
3rd graders are learning about a musical form called Rondo. We compared Rondo form to a double-decker sandwich:
We listened to a piece that is in rondo form, The Typewriter by Leroy Anderson. (The typewriter is an instrument in this piece!)
Here is the orchestra playing this piece:

We listened to another piece by Leroy Anderson that is in a variation of Rondo
Next, we added body percussion to the song to help our bodies feel when the form changes. Here is a class performing "Sleigh Ride!"

Concert-Wear
What should my child wear to the concert?!
Since each grade is highlighting a different Disney Classic, each grade will also have different colors to wear! If your child has a costume that fits with the grade level theme, they may wear that costume (ex: a 2nd grader who has a fish costume, a K4 who has a Cinderella dress).
4th Grade - Beauty and the Beast
All students should wear Red, Yellow, or Blue!
3rd Grade - Aladdin
All students should wear Blue, Purple, or Yellow!
2nd Grade - The Little Mermaid
All students should wear Blue, Green, or Purple!
1st Grade - Frozen
All students should wear Blue or White!
K5 - The Lion King
I will be providing students with costumes!
K4 - Cinderella
All students should wear Blue, White, or Yellow.
I will be providing mouse ears for all of the boys, and girls are encouraged to wear princess dresses!

4th Grade and 1st Grade Song Updates
I have found that some concert songs do not fit the student's voices as well as I would like.
I have decided that we will not sing "Gaston" in 4th grade and that we will not sing "Love is an Open Door" in 1st grade.
By making this change I think that students will feel more confident on stage!

Concert Solos!
During the week of October 31st - November 4th I will be holding solo auditions during music class!
I will be looking for students who can sing the correct rhythms and pitches, those who have memorized their part, and someone who acts as the character while performing.

4th Grade Concert Songs
Here are the 4th grade concert songs to practice at home!
Something There
Belle
Little town
It's a quiet village
Every day
Like the one before
Little town
Full of little people
Waking up to say
Solo 1:
Bonjour
Solo 2:
Bonjour
Bonjour Bonjour Bonjour
There goes the baker with his tray, like always
The same old bread and rolls to sell
Every morning just the same
Since the morning that we came
To this poor provincial town
Solo 3:
Good Morning, Belle
Solo 4:
'Morning, Monsieur
3: Where are you off to
4: The bookshop. I just finished the most wonderful story
about a beanstalk and an ogre and a
3:That's nice. Marie, the baguettes hurry up
Look there she goes that girl is strange, no question
Dazed and distracted, can't you tell
Never part of any crowd
'Cause her head's up on some cloud
No denying she's a funny girl that Belle
|
Bonjour
Good day
How is your family
Bonjour
Good day
How is your wife
Solo 5:
I need six eggs
Solo 6:
That's too expensive
There must be more than this provincial life
Solo 7:
Ah, Belle
4: Good Morning. I've come to return the book I borrowed
7: Finished already
4: Oh, I couldn't put it down. Have you got anything new
7: Ha Ha! Not since yesterday
4: That's all right. I'll borrow, this one
7: That one? But you've read it twice
4: Well, it's my favorite! Far off places, daring sword fights
magic spells, a prince in disguise
7: If you like it all that much, it's yours
4: But sir
7: I insist
4: Well, thank you. Thank you very much
|
Look there she goes that girl is so peculiar
I wonder if she's feeling well
With a dreamy far-off look
And her nose stuck in a book
What a puzzle to the rest of us is Belle
Girls:
Oh, isn't this amazing?
It's my favorite part because you'll see
Here's where she meets Prince Charming
But she won't discover that it's him 'til chapter three
Now it's no wonder that her name means "beauty"
Her looks have got no parallel
But behind that fair facade
I'm afraid she's rather odd
Very diff'rent from the rest of us
She's nothing like the rest of us
Yes, diff'rent from the rest of us is Belle
Solo 8:
Wow! You didn't miss a shot, Gaston, You're the greatest
hunter in the whole world!
Solo 9:
I know.
8: No beast alive stands a chance against you. Ha ha ha and
no girl, for that matter.
9: It's true, LeFou. And I've got my sights set on that one
|
8: Hmm the inventor's daughter
9: She's the one - the lucky girl I'm going to marry
8: But she's
The most beautiful girl in town.
9: I know, but
That makes her the best. And don't I deserve the best
8: Well, of course! I mean you do, but
Boys:
Right from the moment when I met her, saw her
I said she's gorgeous and I fell
Here in town there's only she
Who is beautiful as me
So I'm making plans to woo and marry Belle
Girls:
Look there he goes
Isn't he dreamy
Monsieur Gaston
Oh he's so cute
Be still my heart
I'm hardly breathing
He's such a tall, dark, strong and handsome brute
Solo 10:
Bonjour
Solo 11:
Good day
Solo 12:
You call this bacon
Solo 13:
Some cheese
Solo 14:
One pound
|
Solo 10:
Bonjour
Solo 11:
Good day
Solo 12:
You call this bacon
Solo 13:
Some cheese
Solo 14:
One pound
Solo 15:
I'll get the knife
Solo 16:
This bread
Solo 17:
It's stale
Solo 18:
Madame's mistaken
4: There must be more than this provincial life
9: Just watch, I'm going to make Belle my wife
Look there she goes a girl who's strange but special
A most peculiar mademoiselle
It's a pity and a sin
She doesn't quite fit in
'Cause she really is a funny girl
A beauty but a funny girl
She really is a funny girl
That Belle

Be Our Guest
Solo 20:
Ma chere Mademoiselle, it is with deepest pride
and greatest pleasure that we welcome you tonight.
And now we invite you to relax, let us pull up a
chair as the dining room proudly presents -
your dinner!
Be our guest! Be our guest!
Put our service to the test
Tie your napkin 'round your neck, cherie
And we'll provide the rest
Soup du jour
Hot hors d'oeuvres
Why, we only live to serve
Try the grey stuff
It's delicious!
20: Don't believe me? Ask the dishes
They can sing, they can dance
After all, Miss, this is France
And a dinner here is never second best
Go on, unfold your menu
Take a glance and then you'll
Be our guest
Oui, our guest
Be our guest!
Beef ragout
Cheese souffle
Pie and pudding "en flambe"
20: We'll prepare and serve with flair
A culinary cabaret!
You're alone
And you're scared
But the banquet's all prepared
No one's gloomy or complaining
While the flatware's entertaining
|
20: We tell jokes! I do tricks
With my fellow candlesticks
And it's all in perfect taste
That you can bet
Come on and lift your glass
You've won your own free pass
To be our guest
20: If you're stressed
It's fine dining we suggest
Be our guest! Be our guest! Be our guest!
Solo 21:
Life is so unnerving
For a servant who's not serving
He's not whole without a soul to wait upon
Ah, those good old days when we were useful...
Suddenly those good old days are gone
Ten years we've been rusting
Needing so much more than dusting
Needing exercise, a chance to use our skills!
Most days we just lay around the castle
Flabby, fat and lazy
You walked in and oops-a-daisy!
Solo 22:
It's a guest! It's a guest!
Sakes alive, well I'll be blessed!
Wine's been poured and thank the Lord
I've had the napkins freshly pressed
With dessert, she'll want tea
And my dear that's fine with me
While the cups do their soft-shoein'
I'll be bubbling, I'll be brewing
I'll get warm, piping hot
Heaven's sakes! Is that a spot?
Clean it up! We want the company impressed
We've got a lot to do!
Is it one lump or two?
For you, our guest!
She's our guest!
She's our guest!
She's our guest!
|
Be our guest! Be our guest!
Our command is your request
It's been years since we've had anybody here
And we're obsessed
With your meal, with your ease
Yes, indeed, we aim to please
While the candlelight's still glowing
Let us help you, We'll keep going
Course by course, one by one
'Til you shout, "Enough! I'm done!"
20: Then we'll sing you off to sleep as you digest
Tonight you'll prop your feet up
But for now, let's eat up
Be our guest!
Be our guest!
Be our guest!
Please, be our guest!

Something There
Girls:
There's something sweet and almost kind
But he was mean and he was coarse and unrefined
And now he's dear and so unsure
I wonder why I didn't see it there before
Boys:
She glanced this way, I thought I saw
And when we touched she didn't shudder at my paw
No it can't be, I'll just ignore
But then she's never looked at me that way before
Girls:
New and a bit alarming
Who'd have ever thought that this could be?
True that he's no Prince Charming
But there's something in him that I simply didn't see
23: Well, who'd have thought?
24: Well, bless my soul
25: Well, who'd have known?
23: Well, who indeed?
24: And who'd have guessed they'd come together on their own?
It's so peculiar.
We'll wait and see
A few days more
There may be something there that wasn't there before
25: You know, perhaps there's something there that wasn't there before
There may be something there that wasn't there before
Beauty and the Beast
Tale as old as time
True as it can be
Barely even friends
Then somebody bends
Unexpectedly
Just a little change
Small to say the least
Both a little scared
Neither one prepared
Beauty and the beast
Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before and ever just as sure as the sun will rise
Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise
Tale as old as time
Tune as old as song
Bittersweet and strange
Finding you can change
Learning you were wrong
Certain as the sun
Rising in the east
Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the beast
Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the beast
