Obwisana
Tracing back through our history to find the roots of blues and jazz, 2nd graders went to Ghana (via Google Earth) and also learned a few traditional folk songs. This song is called Obwisana and is a traditional rock passing game. Mrs. Gumm's class makes this game look easy, but it took a lot of practice to work as a team! Great job!

What should my child wear to the concert?!
Since each grade is highlighting a different Disney Classic, each grade will also have different colors to wear! If your child has a costume that fits with the grade level theme, they may wear that costume (ex: a 2nd grader who has a fish costume, a K4 who has a Cinderella dress).
4th Grade - Beauty and the Beast
All students should wear Red, Yellow, or Blue!
3rd Grade - Aladdin
All students should wear Blue, Purple, or Yellow!

2nd Grade - The Little Mermaid
All students should wear Blue, Green, or Purple!

1st Grade - Frozen
All students should wear Blue or White!

K5 - The Lion King
I will be providing students with costumes!

2nd Grade Songs Part 2
Here are two more 2nd grade concert songs! Check out my earlier post with the the first two songs so you can practice at home!
*In this video we will stop at 2:10
She’s in Love
Solo 5:
I’m talking about Ariel, that’s who!
Solo 6:
What about her?
Solo 7:
She sure is acting fishy lately!
Solo 8:
I’ll say! Swimmin’ in circles! Chasing her tail!
Solo 5:
That girl is up to something!
She’s dizzy and she’s dreamy,
Her head’s up in the foam.
Her eyes have gone all glossy,
It’s like there’s no one home.
She floats away the days,
Moapin’ on the coastal shelf.
Is she ill? Or insane?
Is it water on the brain?
What has got her bothered so?
It’s the bend! It’s the flu!
Gosh, I wish we had a clue!
Oh wait! Oh dear!
Good grief! It’s clear…
She’s in love!
She’s in love!
Pounding heart, ringing bells!
Look, I think she’s even wearing brand new shells!
She’s in love (in love and it’s divine)
She’s in love (that girl is on sandbar nine)
Glory be! Lord above!
Gotta be! She’s in love!
5: Hey Flounder! You notice anything weird about you-know-who?
Solo 9:
You mean Ariel? I’ll say!
9: She acts like she don’t see me.
She doesn’t even speak,
She treats me like sashimi
Left over from last week.
You see her out at night,
Tossin’ in her ocean bed
(shoop shoop, shoop shoop)
And she sighs, and she swoons,
And she’s hummin’ little tunes…
Even has a sort of glow
What on earth could it be?
5: Any hammerhead can see!
6: That sigh!
7: That glow!
8: That swoon!
Oh no!
She’s in love!
She’s in love!
She her moves, how they swish!
Well-a well-a well don’t you wonder who’s the lucky seafood dish?
She’s in love!
She’s in love!
See her blush, see her grin,
Gotta be love
She’s in!

2nd Grade Concert Songs Part 1
Here are the 2nd grade concert lyrics and videos to practice with at home! These are the most up-to-date lyrics, including our new song "She's in Love." Some of these versions were taken from Little Mermaid the Musical to better suit the children's voices.
Fathoms Below
I'll tell you a tale of the bottomless blue
And it's hey to the starboard, heave-ho
Brave sailor beware, ‘cause a big-un’s a brewin’
Mysterious fathoms below!
Heave ho!
I’ll sing you a song of the king of the sea,
And it’s hey to the starboard, heave ho!
Ruler of all of the oceans is he,
In mysterious fathoms below!
Fathoms below, below!
From whence wayward westerlies blow!
Where Triton is king, and his merpeople sing
In mysterious fathoms below.
Solo 1:
Isn’t this perfection, Grimsby? Out on the open sea, surrounded by nothing but water and imagination -
Solo 2:
Oh yes, it’s simply… delightful.
The salt on your skin and the wind in your hair,
And the waves as they ebb and they flow!
We’re miles from the shore,
And guess what, I don’t care!
|
2: As for me I’m about to heave-ho!
Ahhh, Ahhh, Ahhh, Ahh
1: What is that? Do you hear something?
Ahhh, Ahhh, Ahhh, Ahhh
2: Milord, please… enough seafaring! This talk of merpeople and the king of the sea is nautical nonsense!
Ahhh, Ahhh, Ahhh, Ahhh
1: There it is again, Straight ahead!
Ahhh, Ahhh, Ahhh, Ahhh
2: Your majesty, you’ve got to return to court and take up your father’s crown!
1: That’s not the life for me, Grimsby. Now follow that voice - to the ends of the earth if we have to!
Solo 3:
Aye-aye captain!
There’s mermaids out there in the bottomless blue,
And it’s hey to the starboard, heave ho!
Watch out for ‘em lad, or you’ll go to your ruin
Mysterious fathoms below!

Part of Your World
Solo 4:
Look at this stuff
Isn't it neat?
Wouldn't you think my collection's complete?
Wouldn't you think I'm the girl
The girl who has ev'rything?
I've got gadgets and gizmos aplenty
I've got whozits and whatzits galore
You want thingamabobs?
I got twenty
But who cares?
No big deal
I want more
I want to be where the people are
I want to see
want to see 'em dancin'
Walkin' around on those
Whad'ya call 'em? oh - feet
Flippin' your fins you don't get too far
Legs are required for jumpin', dancin'
Strollin' along down a
What's that word again? Street
|
Up where they walk
Up where they run
Up where they stay all day in the sun
Wanderin' free
Wish I could be
Part of that world
What would I give
If I could live
Outta these waters?
What would I pay
To spend a day
Warm on the sand?
Betcha on land
They understand
Bet they don't reprimand their daughters
Bright young women
Sick o' swimmin'
Ready to stand
And ready to know what the people know
Ask 'em my questions
And get some answers
What's a fire and why does it
What's the word? Burn?
When's it my turn?
Wouldn't I love
Love to explore that shore above?
Out of the sea
Wish I could be
Part of that world

Stormonth Whole School Concert
Students are starting to prepare for their whole school concert on November 22nd, and you may have seen lyrics packets coming home last week. I wanted to share with you the plan for our concert and some details to keep in mind!
The theme of our concert is DISNEY! Each grade level will be representing a different Disney movie musical by singing, dancing, and acting on stage. I am very excited for this concert, and know the students are too!
The lyrics packet that was sent home has has all of the words to each song that students will potentially sing. Some songs may change as we start working on them to better fit the students voices. 3rd graders have not received a packet to bring home yet, because they are viewing the sheet music in class. I will have the 3rd grade lyrics sheets sent home by the end of this week.
Each packet (with the exception of K4) has solos within the songs, These solos are marked by numbers, and more may be added as we practice. I will let students and parents know when solo auditions will take place as soon as I know. Solo auditions will happen during students' music class, and whoever is interested is welcome to sing the solo that they like best for the class and myself. I will choose students based on a score from their solo rubric (which looks for pitch, rhythm, memorization, and presence). I give preference to students who have not had solos at Stormonth before so that all students who wish to have a solo get the chance.
Keep checking back here to find out details as we get closer to November 22nd!

Yankee Doodle
2nd and 3rd graders are working hard to use the solfege scale and boomwhackers to decode the song "Yankee Doodle!" I have been so impressed with the students' teamwork skills!

Thank a Police Officer
In honor of "Thank a Police Officer Day" students at Stormonth are preparing a song to sing to our local police force on September 30th. Here are the lyrics to that song so you can practice at home!
One Call Away - Police Tribute
They’re only one call away
They’ll be there to save the day
Superman got nothing on them
They’re only one call away
Call ‘em people if you need some help
They just wanna give you love
Come on, come on, come on
Reaching out to them, don’t take a chance
No matter where you go
You know you're not alone
They’re only one call away
They’ll be there to save the day
Superman got nothing on them
They’re only one call away
Come along with them and don't be scared
They just wanna set you free
Come on, come on, come on
They’re looking out for you everywhere
Right now, they’re protecting you and me, ay
'Cause you know, they just want your safety
No matter where you go
You know you're not alone
|
They’re only one call away
They’ll be there to save the day
Superman got nothing on them
They’re only one call away
And when you're weak they’ll be strong
They’re gonna keep holding on
Now don't you worry, it won't be long,
And when you feel like hope is gone
Just put your trust in blue
They’re only one call away
They’ll be there to save the day
Superman got nothing on them
They’re only one call away
They’ll be there to save the day
Superman got nothing on them
They’re only one call away
They’re only one call away
