Yankee Doodle

2nd and 3rd graders are working hard to use the solfege scale and boomwhackers to decode the song "Yankee Doodle!"  I have been so impressed with the students' teamwork skills!

Five Little Ladies

K5 students were putting music and math together by learning the fingerplay "Five Little Ladies."  Students made the connection that five little ladies dancing with five little gentlemen made ten people total in this fun game!

4th Grade Solo Opportunity

4th grade students are invited to try out for a solo in our Thank a Police Officer song, "One Call Away."  There are three solos and students can sing for me during their first music class next week.

Making Music in K4

K4 students played two new instruments this week- the rain stick and the guiro crow!  We sang "Frog in the Meadow" and used the rain stick to make the sound of wind rushing through long, wavy grass, and the guiro crow for making the sound of the frog's "ribbitt!"

I have greatly enjoyed getting to know our new K4 students and I am excited for a very musical year with them!

3rd Grade Solfege Mystery

This week 3rd graders started to decode the solfege scale into different key signatures.  They discovered how to make a major scale starting on the note F by only using their ears! 

Thank a Police Officer

In honor of "Thank a Police Officer Day" students at Stormonth are preparing a song to sing to our local police force on September 30th.  Here are the lyrics to that song so you can practice at home!
